Pasadena, CA – On Friday, May 31, over 500 immigrant advocates gathered together to hear directly from Democratic Presidential Candidates about their vision for immigration reform in the United States. The line up included Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Bernie Sanders, former HUD Secretary Julian Castro and Governor of Washington Jay Inslee.
“What we saw today, was our leaders speaking from the heart, from a place of courage with individuals who want to be President of the United States,” said CHIRLA Action Fund President and Board Chair Angelica Salas, “They came and engaged in a very positive way with our immigrant community.”
The first presidential forum on immigration comes after more than two years of relentless attacks by the Trump administration on communities of color, immigrants, and refugees.
CHIRLA Action Fund, FIRM Action, and Community Change Action have played key roles in fighting for legislative solutions in Congress, as well as in state legislative bodies. Include a tremendous get out the vote effort that helped flip Congressional districts across the country.
