Washington D.C. –
With the introduction of H.R. 6, the “Dream and Promise Act of 2019” has come a
new hope to address the Trump Administration’s incessant attacks on immigrant
communities.
The bill itself
represents a new vision for immigrants residing in the United States based on
fair and humane policies that value people and their contributions. For those
who qualify, this bill offers a path to citizenship which is more inclusive
than previous efforts in the past.
The Senate, in
turn, has responded by introducing both the DREAM Act and SECURE Act. These
pieces of legislation are stand-alone but include a similar vision as the
combined H.R. 6 Bill in the House.
One thing is for
certain, as the uncertainty of young immigrants, Deferred Action for Childhood
Arrivals (DACA), Temporary Protective Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforcement
Departure (DED) recipients, these bills offer a light at the end of the
tunnel. Below is a list of co-sponsors for each of these three pieces of
legislation.
The CHIRLA Action Fund will monitor these pieces
of legislation as they serve for the foundation for a bold vision for America.
We will be tracking the support garnered for these bills and will offer an
analysis of what they include as a pro-active solution to section of our
immigrant community who continue to be stuck in limbo.
