CHIRLA Action Fund works to increase voter participation in neighborhoods with low-propensity turnout among working and low-income families. We feel that by encouraging voters to participate in our democracy, we can create a better more inclusive future. For this reason, CHIRLA Action Fund registers new voters and turns them out to vote during both the primary and general elections.
With an intensive Get Out the Vote strategy, we have made a difference in voter turnout over the past three years. Through our volunteer base, community leaders are getting their families, friends, and neighbors to have their voices heard at the ballot box. This relationship-based approach is making a difference.
Civic Engagement – Voter turnout at the polls has been steadily increasing over the past 20 years, however, the immigrant community in California still falls short of true democratic representation. CHIRLA Action Fund is growing a base of grassroots leaders who will in turn encourage others to vote and turn the low-propensity voter narrative on its head.
Pro-Immigrant Policies – Pro-Immigrant policy works. As our emerging new American communities establish roots in our community, their livelihood and long term success, just as immigrants of the past, is dependent on their hard work partnered with solid policies that pave the way for economic and social success. The future of California depends on it.
